In order to seize the European lithium battery market, Putailai (603659.SH) plans to build a large-scale anode material factory in Sweden.
On the evening of May 5, Putailai announced that it plans to invest in the establishment of Zichen Technology (Sweden) Co., Ltd. in Sweden to build an integrated production and research and development base project for anode materials, with an annual production capacity of 4,10 tons. The anode material is one of the four core main materials of lithium batteries.
The project is located in Sundsvall, northeast Sweden, and is expected to have a production capacity of 2025,5 tons of anode materials in 2027 and 10,<> tons of anode materials by early <> at the latest.
The investment amount will not exceed SEK 157.106 billion (approximately RMB 30.70 billion), of which the company plans to contribute about <>% from its own funds and about <>% of the project loan financing.
Putailai said that the Swedish factory will further improve the company's overseas production capacity layout, which can effectively meet the supply chain management and order needs of downstream customers.
The Financial Times reported that the above project will become the largest lithium battery anode material factory in Europe, and European battery manufacturer Northvolt will become its first customer.
Putailai's main business covers anode materials, membrane materials and lithium battery equipment and other fields. Anode materials is the company's largest business segment, with shipments of 2022,13 tons in 9, a year-on-year increase of 43.45%. The revenue of this business exceeded 76.49 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 15.<>%.
Putailai said that in the growing market demand in Europe and the United States and the current large-scale local industrial chain, domestic power battery industry chain enterprises are facing major historical opportunities and challenges.
"Going overseas to set up factories to seize the supply chain in overseas markets will become an indispensable and important part." Pu Tailai said. The company has previously disclosed that it will accelerate its overseas work, combine the supply chain supporting needs of downstream customers, establish overseas production bases, and steadily increase market share.
According to the statistics of Xinlu Information, the global output of anode materials in 2022 will be 146.8 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 67.3%. Among them, the global market share of China's anode material production reached 96%.
The above statistics show that Jiangxi Zichen, a subsidiary of Putailai, is the third largest manufacturer of anode materials in China, second only to Shenzhen Betray and Shanghai Shanshan.
Europe has become the main destination for China's lithium battery industry chain to set up factories overseas, including battery manufacturers such as CATL (300750.SZ), China Innovation Aviation (03931.HK), Guoxuan Hi-Tech (002074.SZ), as well as upstream supply chain enterprises such as Kodali (002850.SZ) and Enjie (002812.SZ).
In its long-term market outlook for new energy vehicles released by Bloomberg New Energy Finance last year, it predicted that the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in Europe will reach 2025% by 39. Europe is the second largest NEV market after China, with a penetration rate of 2022% in 21.
